Harith’s Eagle Scout Project

Harith Talapaneni, a junior in High School and a Boy Scout, recently finished his Eagle project, where he designed, planned, and constructed a pergola next to VISTA’s Pond.

Harith presented his proposal to the VISTA Board of Directors who gave feedback on improving the project. He then presented his revised proposal to his troop's scoutmaster, committee chair, and council, who all officially approved the project.

Harith worked with the Home Depot store manager to buy the materials and supplies (lumber, metal ties, screws, etc.) at a discounted price. He also set up a Go-Fund-Me fundraiser to help cover additional costs.

With VISTA’s VP and Infrastructure Chair, Marty Kleiner, they planned the exact location of the pergola posts near the pond, transported the materials using a U-Haul, and dug the holes.

Harith assembled a team to collaborate on the build that included fellow scouts, family and scouting leaders to help construct the pergola and said, “This was a great project, and I learned much about leadership, time management, project planning, and problem solving while working on this project. I hope the VISTA members and visitors can sit under the pergola and enjoy the pond.”
